Promoting Inclusive Access for STEM Subjects

Every child is born with their own unique abilities, and some children will also have additional learning needs. I know the difficulties that parents face when their child has additional learning needs. 

My Son began to speak at 3 and a half years old, and prior to him speaking, I was told by professionals that my son may never speak. My son has speech and language difficulties, and this has had a negative impact on his confidence. However, my son has always loved anything Electrical and Mechanical. I am a qualified Electrician, but I will never be the Engineer that my son is.

My Daughter was born with Cone Dystrophy, which is a rare eye disorder that affects her visual clarity, colour perception and sensitivity to light. She never liked walking outside until the age of 3 years old, because she did not have the special glasses which reduces her light sensitivity. She loves playing with trains, but most of all, she enjoys putting the train tracks together.
If my daughter would like to become an Electrician when she is older, she would not have the opportunity to become an Electrician because of her decreased colour perception.

Every child learns differently, some learn more by reading and then doing the practical activity, and some children learn by watching others and then doing the practical activity. Some children will learn more quickly than others, and some children require additional support to learn.

I have personally helped more than 400 students become Electricians since 2015. My new project has a personal attachment, because I would like to work with manufacturers, leading experts, senior technical staff and companies within the STEM sector, to create and promote inclusive access for people with disabilities and various learning difficulties to learn STEM subjects.
